Zapyskis church (read)
Sound background: Gregorian chant of the Palendriai monastery, leader Gregory Castrini
The church was built in 1578 by the Palatine of Naugardukas Povilas Sapiega owning big areas of ground and forests in his palace in Sapiegiškis which was later called Zapyškis. This is one of the oldest brick buildings in Lithuania, a unique building of the gothic architecture of the second half of the XVI century made by local builders.
The masters made walls which thickness was even one meter. The church facades were decorated with profiled bricks and abutments, the attic was separated to graceful niches which still demonstrate the gothic penetration to the sky.
