Description

Raseiniai region historical museum was established in 1975 in an old building ( historical monument), formerly Raseiniai Detention house in 1930-1952. Regional history from ancient times, ethnography, folk and professional art is chronologically displayed in the 12 exposition halls. Also educational occupations, meetings, different seminars, conferences take place in the museum.

A very interesting and unexpected for viewer clayware collection is displayed in Raseiniai regional historical museum. It includes 377 clay birds, animals which are made by self-educated creator Valeras Kuzas. The author was born in Putriu village Ariogala district in 1906. The master said that te took to make from clay when he was their works was. It was a perfect material for children to play. Works from clay were forgotten for long time and later when he was mature enough V. Kuzas started it again and displayed his works in folk art exhibitions in Klaipeda, Raseiniai, Mazeikiai. The author was mentioned in the press, radio. The museum possessed his unique works for the first time in 1979, and the whole collection got in 1996. V.Kuzas works from clay are unique in folk creation meaning, works technique, material. The birds have the exclusive position in the exposition. The master spent his life in the outskirts. He always enjoyed birds’ chirping and this influenced his very warm and real creation. V. Kuzas’ creation was based on personal experience and feelings. Animals’ forms and colors are right repeated in clay works. This collection is as clay encyclopedia. We- the workers of the museum are very happy to have those kinds of folk art works in Lithuania only. Welcome everybody o visit this unique expositions in Raseiniai regional history museum.

A lot of exhibits, show traditional Lithuanian peasant culture in XIX-XX age. These are: main and supporting trades, living and economic dwellings, house wares, transport, handicrafts, peasants’ clothes, interior. This is the richest folk clothes, pottery, drapery, forgers’ works and tools exposition.

Exposition “History of Raseiniai region in XIX-XX ages” reflects the fight of people against czarist Russia policy. It also honors well-known people who took care about Lithuanian books, shows the oldest town photos. There is displayed material about Lithuanian poet Maironis who was born in Pasandravys (Raseiniai district), his works.
