Along the hoist-bridge, through the gate you can enter the Courtyard of the Central Palace where one can clearly feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. The Central Palace of the Trakai Island Castle is of conventional type: there are two parallel rectangular stone and brick blocks with high hip-roofs, galleries and a rectangular donjon. The left block contained living rooms, while the right one – Representative Hall. Interior of the Palace was decorated with profile bricks, stained glass, artistic tiles. Unfortunately, all this did not reach our time. The Castle was seriously damaged in the middle of the XVIIth century during wars with Russia.
