Sound background: Vydmantai Folk Ensemble "Žemčiūga"
For the first time in written sources Tverai was mentioned in 1251, in Ipatheus chronicle. The church of Visitation of St. Virgin Mary in Tverai is one of the largest wooden churches in Lithuania.
The town is famous for its feast of St. Virgin Mary, which is held on the first Sunday of July. The monument of Lithuanian Independence (restored in 1989) stands in the center of Tverai.
